Niagara-on-the-Lake is one of my favourite towns in Ontario, and is such a gem. The quaint town is beautiful and has so much to see. I love to make a trip out of it and stay over the weekend, but doing a day trip is completely doable since it is only 1 hour and a half away from Downtown Toronto (depending on traffic). The historic main street is full of beautiful local shops, and is the perfect place to stroll and do some shopping.

Here's my sample itinerary based on a few trips I've taken to NOTL.

Where to stay

The Prince of Wales Hotel is a gorgeous Victoria hotel located on the historic main street of Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. The hotel is a Vintage Hotels property, and was built in 1864, and named when The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York visited in 1901. The property is beautiful, and has the best afternoon tea in town. The Churchhill Lounge Pub also has the best burgers.

Harbour House Hotel is a quaint property that is by the port, and is super charming. The staff is so welcoming, and the hotel has a wine hour for guests.

Queens Landing is a Georgian mansion overlooking the river in Niagara-on-the-Lake, and it is beautiful! A few minute walk from the harbour, and to the main street, the location is wonderful. The Tiara Restaurant is great for special occasions.

What to eat

My go to restaurant has to be the Garrison House, and their Steak Frites is absolute perfection. Great spot and loved by locals, this is a favourite of mine. Their creme brûlée is also fantastic, and is seasonally flavoured!

Tiara Restaurant at Queens Landing Hotel also has a great atmosphere for fine dining, and is perfect for special occasions. Wonderful food and great service.

Another favourite spot for dining is the Trius Winery Restaurant, Chef Frank Dodd creates a fantastic locally inspired menu that changes seasonally, with such fresh ingredients. Also, if you're a wine club member you receive a complimentary sparkling wine glass!

Old Winery Restaurant has the best pizza and pasta in town!

Wine Tasting

Trius Winery- The Loft experience is excellent. Staff here always goes above and beyond. During the summer time, they host a movie night in the vineyard that is my absolute favourite!

Wayne Gretzky Estates - One of the newer properties and owned by the Great O One, this is a great addition to the area. Great tasting flights for wine, beer, and whiskey!

Colaneri Estates Winery - This property will take you to Italy, truly! Perfect spot for taking photos for Instagram. This beautiful family owned winery produces Appasimento wines.

Two Sisters Winery - A unique spot with some great wines. Their winery restuarant Kitchen 76 has great pizza, and their patio is perfect in the summer time.

Reif Estate Winery - One of the oldest wineries in the region and is family owned. Their Cabernet Merlot is fantastic!

Chateau des Charmes - Gorgeous picturesque property right off the QEW. Their Sauvignon Blanc, Gamay Noir, and sparkling wines are my go to!

Ravine Winery - Located in St. Davids a short drive outside of NOTL, Ravine is an amazing property with the best restaurant. Their food is excellent and always made with locally sourced farm to table experience.
