I spent the perfect day discovering somewhere I had never been before, Niagara’s South Coast. This was a region that truly blew me away, and I cannot wait to be back! If you’re looking for charming small towns, great food and wine, and antiquing, you have to add Niagara’s South Coast to your bucket list.

This hidden gem region is filled with so many local family-owned businesses, local markets, and one of the best restaurants I’ve been to all year. Whether you're planning a weekend getaway or simply looking for an unforgettable day trip, here's exactly how I'd spend a day exploring Niagara's South Coast.
Begin your day at Johnson's Family Market, a family-run market that showcases everything the Niagara region does best. Browse fresh seasonal produce, locally made products, baked goods, jams, and pantry staples while soaking up the welcoming small-town atmosphere.
One of my favourite surprises? The adorable petting zoo! It's a fun stop whether you're visiting with family or simply want to enjoy a slower morning before heading out to explore the region.

Head over to FONT Coffee Bar for a perfectly brewed iced lattes, before stopping at The Baking Bar for a fresh croissant or pastry. The two make the perfect pairing and are a great excuse to slow down and enjoy the morning.
One of the highlights of the afternoon was visiting Sons & Daughters Winery in Fonthill.
This boutique family-owned winery is known for its beautiful vineyard views and exceptional Riesling, making it the perfect place to unwind with a tasting flight. Sitting outside overlooking the vines with a glass of local wine is exactly the kind of experience that makes Niagara's South Coast feel so special.

Whether you're already a wine enthusiast or simply enjoy discovering smaller wineries, this stop is absolutely worth adding to your itinerary.
One of the things I loved most about Niagara's South Coast is how relaxed everything feels. After the winery, spend some time wandering through the area's antique shops and local boutiques. You never know what treasures you'll come across, and it's the perfect way to slow down before dinner.

The Best Meal I've Had All Year: Root & Bone

A trip to Niagara's South Coast isn't complete without dinner at Root & Bone.
This farm-to-table restaurant is led by Chef Raymond Taylor, whose passion for local ingredients shines through every dish. Many of the ingredients are sourced directly from his own farm, and everything is prepared in a completely open kitchen, allowing you to watch the culinary team at work throughout your meal.
We chose the four-course tasting menu, and every course was thoughtfully crafted.
The evening began with a crispy butternut squash dish served with miso brown butter aioli, parmesan, and candied walnuts. It was packed with flavour and the perfect balance of crispy, creamy, savoury, and sweet.
Next came a fresh farm herb salad dressed with champagne chive vinaigrette and topped with toasted pumpkin seeds, showcasing just how incredible local ingredients can be when they're allowed to shine.
Then came the dish I'll be dreaming about for a long time.

The Wagyu Short Rib Wellington featured tender braised short rib wrapped in perfectly flaky puff pastry, served alongside truffle whipped mashed potatoes and finished with a rich red wine jus. Every bite was rich, comforting, and incredibly balanced. It was genuinely one of the best dishes I've eaten all year.
To finish, we enjoyed a silky Grand Marnier crème brûlée that was the perfect ending to an unforgettable meal.

Niagara's South Coast offers a side of the Niagara region that many visitors miss, but it's one that's absolutely worth experiencing. From local markets and boutique wineries to unforgettable dining experiences, it's the perfect destination for food and wine lovers looking to explore hidden gems. I'll definitely be back, and when you go, make sure you go hungry! A huge thank you to Niagara's South Coast for hosting us on this incredible visit and sponsoring this post. As always, all opinions are my own.
